Vol.11 Chatuchak Weekend Market, Thai |

My main goal in Bangkok is to stock up at Chatuchak Market, the largest of its kind in Asia! It is a weekend market with over 15,000 stalls only on weekends. Buyers and tourists from all over the world are said to visit. The goal is to find fabrics from ethnic minorities such as the Hmong and Akha! Tetteh of the ethnic and slightly psychedelic “Tetteh Store" told me about Chatuchak in advance, and off I went! Around 8:00 a.m., I took the BTS (monorail) to Mo Chit. I followed the flow of people to the entrance of the market.

Around 8:00 a.m., I took the BTS (monorail) to Mo Chit. I followed the flow of people to the entrance of the market. First, I bought a cup of Thai tea for 15 baht to prevent heat stroke. The huge market is divided into sections and sois. Sections 23 and 24 are for fashion. While walking around, I saw foot massage shops here and there.

Walking through the antique and silk section 25 & 26, there was a store specializing in old fabrics, not ready-made!

Here are ethnic costumes and old cloths of the Hmong and Yao tribes. When I asked about the prices, they were not cheap compared to the prices I bought in Laos 15 years ago.
I was told, “These are wholesale prices and the stores charge more," and “They don’t make handmade clothes anymore, so the next time you come here, they might not have them. I also bought a baby carrier strap from the Hmong tribe and a piece of cloth from the Lao tribe. First of all, I achieved my goal!

I had a rice noodle for 50 baht and a mango smoothie for 50 baht, and refreshed myself with a foot massage for 250 baht (with air conditioning and wifi) for 1 hour! It was so hot that I felt like I was going to be exhausted soon, but I continued my tour in the afternoon.

In addition to ethnic fabrics, Chinese-style fabrics and cangas are also available. I bought a floral patterned cloth because it is rare to find a Chinese style pattern.

I also bought some business accessories for a chevelle party I started with my friend and left at 3:00 pm because I ran out of fuel. Good job, myself! I heard that there is a Yaowarat market for handicrafts in Chinatown where I am staying, but I couldn’t go there due to time and energy constraints… I’ll try again next time!
