沖縄の中部にある読谷村(よみたんそん)。

読谷山花織事業協同組合では、伝統的工芸品の読谷山花織・ミンサー花織の作品を見ることが出来る。近くには陶芸の村「やちむん」や世界遺産の「座喜味城跡」などがあり、青の洞窟も近い観光スポットだ。
Yomitan Village is located in central Okinawa.
At the Yomitan Hanaori Cooperative, visitors can see works of traditional Yomitan Hanaor and Minsa Hanaori. Nearby are the pottery village of Yachimun and the World Heritage Site Zakimi Castle Ruins, and the Blue Cave is also a nearby tourist spot.

読谷山花織の特徴は、花のようなの文様。

琉球藍や福木（ふくぎ）、すおうなどで先染めされた絹糸、綿糸を用いて織り込んでく。手間のかかる織物なので、琉球王朝時代には王族以外と読谷村以外の庶民は着ることが許されない、貴重な織物だったそう。600年の歴史がある読谷山花織は、明治以降の近代化・戦争により忘れかけられていたが、有志により1964年に復活した。
Yomitan Hanaori is characterized by its flower-like patterns.
It is woven using silk and cotton yarns dyed in advance with Ryukyu indigo, Fukugi, Suoh, and other dyes. The 600-year-old Yomitan Hanaori was almost forgotten due to modernization and wars after the Meiji period (1868-1912), but it was revived in 1964 by volunteers.

車で読谷山花織事業協同組合の建物に向かう。展示物の撮影はNGだったので、建物の外観のみ。建物の中に入ると読谷山花織の反物や帯などが飾られ、組合員の方が説明をしてくれた。展示の中に、お孫さんの成人式に祖母が手織で着物を仕立てた新聞記事が。
I drove to the Ymitanhanaori Cooperative building. Since I were not allowed to take pictures of the exhibits, we only saw the exterior of the building. Once inside the building, Yomitan Hanaori antiques and obis were displayed, and a member of the cooperative gave us an explanation. Among the exhibits was a newspaper article about a grandmother’s hand-woven kimono for her grandson’s coming-of-age ceremony.

機織り機が別室に並んでおり、地元の方々がここに通いながら機織をし、伝統を脈々と引き継いている。
展示物を見てまわった後は同じ場所にある販売コーナーに。カラフルなテーブルクロスに目が引かれ、2枚ほど購入した。
Looms are lined up in a separate room, and local people commute here to weave and keep the tradition alive.
After looking around the exhibits, we went to the sales corner in the same place. I was drawn to the colorful tablecloths and bought a couple of them.
